Dimtu Wate Station, located in the Hambela district of Guji, Ethiopia, receives cherries from around 600 smallholder farmers in villages (kebeles) such as Buku Sayisa and Dimtu. Among Gujoo’s stations, Wate is the highest in elevation, and only Grade 1 (G1) coffees are produced here, with the harvest taking place from December to early February. During harvest season, 100–150 local people are employed as pickers. The trees are relatively young, around 10–20 years old, and the station was established in 2019 in response to declining cup quality caused by aging trees in surrounding areas. The station is equipped with a Penagos Ecopulper, which reduces water usage while efficiently removing mucilage, enabling clean and consistent lots with minimal environmental impact. The cherries brought by farmers include local varieties such as Wolichu and Kudhume, as well as improved cultivars like 74112 and 74110. Gujoo is also engaged in social projects in this area, including the distribution of 1,000 reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls in collaboration with a U.S. roaster, and plans to install water pumps with purification filters, aiming to improve sustainable living for the local community.
