TYPICA President Kasai Featured in AERA Magazine
An interview with TYPICA President and Director Tatsuya Kasai was featured in the April 14, 2025 issue of AERA, a weekly magazine published by the Asahi Shimbun, released on April 7.
AERA is known for its in-depth reporting on a wide range of topics spanning politics, economics, society, and culture. The feature appears in the magazine’s “Workplace Deities” (Shokuba no Kamisama) column under the title, “Supporting Coffee Producers through Direct Trade.” The article highlights TYPICA’s groundbreaking efforts to transform the coffee industry.
In the interview, Kasai reflects on the structural issues facing the industry and outlines TYPICA’s vision for building a more sustainable production system:
“The production of coffee and cotton both share a common legacy rooted in slavery and colonialism. These industries reveal the distortions of unchecked capitalism in a very stark way. Our work is sustained by people who share our commitment to changing that structure.”
He continues: “When individuality can connect directly with individuality, producers are naturally motivated to create something even better. We’re starting that shift with coffee.”
TYPICA remains dedicated to advancing the sustainability of the coffee industry by directly connecting producers and buyers through its platform.
