The OKAGESAMA Project at Acacia Hills is now well and truly underway. To everyone who has joined the project, and to all those who have been supporting Acacia Hills along the way \u2014 here is the latest update from the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, a message from Leon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“To everyone supporting the OKAGESAMA Project and helping us plant trees on our farm \u2014 Aideen and I want to express our heartfelt gratitude.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are on a wonderful journey together \u2014 building a vast new planting of Geisha coffee alongside a rich shade forest. What we are creating is more than just a farm. It is a living legacy that will nurture the land and future generations for many years to come.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a saying: ‘Plant trees under whose shade you will never sit.’ But here at Acacia Hills, with our rich volcanic soils, reliable rainfall, and approximately 300 days of sunshine each year, we believe you may get to enjoy the shade of these trees sooner than you might expect.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every tree planted is an act of faith in the future, and every contribution to this project brings that dream closer to reality. We are deeply grateful to be walking this path with you.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We now share the latest progress from the farm, with photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, to give a sense of the scale of the project, here are some drone shots taken before planting began. The brown patches visible on the left of the image are Ridge 3 and Ridge 4 \u2014 the new expansion areas.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Across these gently sloping hillsides, 12,000 Geisha seedlings have already been planted, with a target of reaching 20,000 before the rains end. At this altitude, the conditions are ideal for growing Geisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a look at the planting in progress \u2014 rows of seedlings stretching across the rich red African soil, planted one by one with care.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the planting work of the OKAGESAMA Project, Acacia Hills has been steadily expanding its infrastructure. The ongoing relationships with roasters through TYPICA have made this kind of farm development possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To meet growing demand for naturally processed coffees, 12 new drying tables are being added to the area below the existing tables.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The word “OKAGESAMA” carries a sense of gratitude for connection, and deep respect for the land, nature, and the people who tend it. While the majority of the estate continues to be maintained as a conservation area, this new expansion represents an exciting new chapter \u2014 one dedicated to rare and experimental varieties. The land development and infrastructure work featured in this update have been made possible in part through participation in the OKAGESAMA Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
