The 55 participants from various roasteries and cafes were able to experience firsthand what TYPICA stands for through events such as presentations and cuppings of direct trade coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_02-1200x799.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12443\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>TYPICA first launched in Taiwan in October 2021, but in-person activities were restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, we were able to build good relationships with various members in the industry in Taiwan through interacting online, and it was with great excitement that we were finally able to hold our first in-person event at several roasteries that are important members of the TYPICA community.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_03-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12445\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Host roasteries for the Taiwan Caravan included <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/vwi-by-chadwang\/\">VWI by CHADWANG<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/coffee-underwater\/\">Coffee Underwater<\/a> in Taipei, <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/coffee-stopover\/\">Coffee Stopover<\/a> in Taichung, Cupping Spoon in Tainan, and <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/coffee-bullet\/\">Coffee Bullet<\/a> in Kaohsiung. Since Taiwan is a region that is considered both a coffee consumer and origin, Zouzhouyuan from Alishan &#8211; one of Taiwan\u2019s leading producers, also took part in the Kaohsiung event.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<section class=\"full\">\n<div class=\"inner\">\n    <figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy_load\" width=\"100%\" height=\"675\" data-origin=\"https:\/\/typica.coffee\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_04.jpg\" data-width=\"1200\" data-height=\"675\" data-transparent=\"1\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/typica2021\/assets\/images\/common\/spacer.gif\" alt=\"Spacer\" \/>\n    <\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_05-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12448\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Chad from VWI by CHADWANG, the roastery that hosted the Caravan on its first day, expressed his expectations for the event by saying, \u201cAs someone who was inspired by TYPICA\u2019s innovative and special philosophy, I want to encourage activities that will help them build their presence here. For a country with many companies that trade in coffee like Taiwan, having a global startup like TYPICA enter the fray should promote competition and make the market even more healthy.\u201d Stanley from Coffee Stopover remarked, \u201cThose of us with strong cupping experience wanted to reach out and help TYPICA since we felt like they were making sincere efforts to collaborate with the coffee community in Taiwan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_06-1200x799.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12449\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Caravan began with a presentation from one of TYPICA\u2019s co-founders, Masashi Goto. In addition to sharing our current activities and vision, he also introduced some of our projects aimed at tackling issues facing the coffee industry. These ventures include <a href=\"https:\/\/lab.typica.jp\/en\/\">\u201cTYPICA Lab,\u201d<\/a> which gives roasters an opportunity to visit and deepen their knowledge of producing countries, and <a href=\"https:\/\/okagesama.typica.jp\/en\/\">\u201cOKAGESAMA,\u201d<\/a> a greening project that contributes to planting shade trees in coffee origins.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_07-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12451\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For the cupping sessions, 14 lots from 9 producers were prepared. These included lots from the new crop that is currently on offer as well as ready-to-ship lots that are part of our handpicked \u201cTYPICA Selection.\u201d Additionally, 5 producers joined the event online and shared how they first connected with TYPICA as well as their passion for creating delicious coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elias from <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/producers\/wete-ambela-coffee\/\">Wete Ambela Coffee<\/a> in Ethiopia made some supportive comments about how he believed the need for high quality coffee in Taiwan was growing. \u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to how TYPICA will grow in Taiwan. This is an excellent chance for Taiwanese roasters to experience just how good our products are. Not only is it an opportunity for us to increase our sales, but we also hope to improve our processes by taking their feedback into account.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<section class=\"full\">\n<div class=\"inner\">\n    <figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazy_load\" width=\"100%\" height=\"675\" data-origin=\"https:\/\/typica.coffee\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_08.jpg\" data-width=\"1200\" data-height=\"675\" data-transparent=\"1\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/typica2021\/assets\/images\/common\/spacer.gif\" alt=\"Spacer\" \/>\n    <\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_09-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12454\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>4 roasteries from Japan with strong ties to Taiwan, <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/locations\/nagasawa-coffee\/\">Nagasawa COFFEE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/manly-coffee\/\">ROASTERY MANLY COFFEE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/mame-porepore\/\">Mame Porepore<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/kurasu\/\">Kurasu<\/a>, were also invited to participate in a round-table discussion. Having taken part in roastery training in Taipei 10 years ago, MANLY COFFEE\u2019s Noriko Sunaga enthusiastically stated, \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to interacting with producers in Taiwan as well as sharing roasted coffee and exchanging information.\u201d <br><br>Yoshiyuki Nakamura from Mame Porepore added, \u201cThere are so many things we can learn from people in Taiwan\u2019s coffee industry, whether it be the open and enthusiastic attitudes of the roasters or the breadth of knowledge of the consumers. I\u2019ll be keeping a close eye on Taiwan from now on!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_10-960x1200.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12456\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the Caravan, it wasn\u2019t uncommon to hear greetings like, \u201cIt\u2019s so good to finally meet you!\u201d exchanged between Taiwanese roasters and our Taiwan team. Yu-ta Chu from <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/oasis-coffee-roaster\/\">Oasis Coffee Roaster<\/a> likened the experience to, \u201cthe joy of meeting up with a friend that you haven\u2019t seen in many years.\u201d<br><br>Austin Tsai from <a href=\"https:\/\/global.typica.jp\/narratives\/roasters\/all-day-roasting-company\/\">All Day Roasting Company <\/a>also participated in the Community Dinner. Some of his comments included, \u201cTYPICA\u2019s emphasis on transparency deeply resonated with me. We may be able to get green beans of the same quality from other companies, but TYPICA is different because they buy directly from producers and deeply understand them. You can see how they help each other to thrive and grow. I believe these relationships will continue to improve the quality of coffee being produced and keep customers happy. It\u2019s a win-win situation for the entire coffee industry.\u201d <br><br>Looking back on the event, Jeff from Caf\u00e9 de Synergy added, \u201cI\u2019d heard of TYPICA as a platform, but that was about all the information I had until now. This was a great opportunity to learn about TYPICA\u2019s history and growth firsthand. It felt like the aspirations and desires of their Taiwanese team were so similar to my own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><section>\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"columns\">\n    <div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/typica.jp\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Taiwan_Caravan_11-1200x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12457\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><div class=\"col\">\n\n\n<h4><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, we are planning cupping events throughout Taiwan starting from April. After summer we will be launching Taipei Home, our Taiwanese headquarters, as well as exhibiting at the Taiwan International Coffee Show 2023, which is being held in Taipei in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the 5-day span of the Taiwan Caravan, the number of Taiwanese roasters registered with TYPICA climbed to over 1,000.
